Amsterdam-based eclectic dj duo Match Box. Comprised of Bastiaan Van Berkel and Luuk Bergervoet, Match Box creates energetic music that draws inspiration from dance music genres of the past while still retaining a very modern and current sound.
Growing up with classic Euro sounds, the two are heavily influenced by Dutch and UK house, techno, progressive, and trance of the 90s. To capture this throwback era, Match Box utilizes old synthesizers and drum machines to create a sound that’s both nostalgic and modern at the same time. If you take early 90s big beat, old school UK breaks, 2-Step, jungle, then sprinkle early Dutch house and trance sprinkles on top, you’ll get the quintessential recipe for Match Box.
Releasing their first single “Spaarndammerstraat” in 2020, Match Box continued building momentum with their debut EP Rain Check, released on Who’s Susan in 2021. The six-track EP explores a moody space aesthetic through broken beats and plays with textured bass and snares that cut through atmospheric synths. Their 2022 EP 19 transports you to the days of rave, sporting big beat melodies, 90s house pianos, and punchy kick drums. With a continuous stream of releases for the last three years, Match Box received support from renowned artists, e.g. Job Jobse just featured their track “Quantum Transients” in his Essential Mix.
